SUMMARY:Seminários GIFT 2021 - Interference effects and modified Born rule in the presence of torsion
DESCRIPTION:Descrição: The extra degrees of freedom of the connection beyond the Levi-Civita one\, such as the presence of torsion\, has gained increasing interest in proposals to modify General Relativity. However\, there remains still some difficulties when it comes to coupling these degrees of freedom to some physical theories. Hence\, here we investigate the propagation of non-relativistic quantum excitations in material media with topological defects\, which can be modelled in terms of an external torsion field\, modifying the Schrödinger equation. We calculate the magnitude of corrections caused by this effect for an experimental setup at atomic scales using interference patterns. Finally\, we demonstrate how this geometric approach can indeed accommodate a probabilistic interpretation of the wave function although the perturbative theory is non-unitary. This effective setup poses some interesting problems for probabilistic interpretations of quantum mechanics in the presence of torsion. Based on the preprint [arXiv:2107.05058].
