Palestra: “Next Generation Integrated Photonics”
agosto 22, 2018 @ 13:30 - 15:00
Next Generation Integrated Photonics
Prof. Dr. Jaime Cardenas
The Institute of Optics – University of Rochester
Summary: In this talk, the nanoscale and integrated photonics devices for the next generation will be presented. We do optics on a chip by engineering structures at the nanoscale level using microfabrication techniques. We work with any materials needed for our application ranging from recently discovered 2D materials all the way to glass. Some examples of the questions we want to answer or problems we want to solve are: How do you package photonic devices for low cost and high volume applications? What tools can be conceived and built that will revolutionize other scientific fields such as neuroscience, cellular biology, or astronomy? What new platform will revolutionize nanophotonics? In this talk, I will discuss general aspects to design and to fabricate nanophotonic devices, to solve (or answer) some of today’s challenging problems (or questions).
Prof. Dr. Jaime Cardenas Short Biography
Dr. Jaime Cardenas earned his Ph.D. from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in Optical Science and Engineering. His research was in single air interface bends and waveguide microcantilevers. After two years as a process engineer, and
three years as a Postdoctoral researcher in the Cornell Nanophotonics Group, Jaime continued with the Lipson Nanophotonics Group as a research scientist at Columbia University in June 2015. He joined the faculty of The Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, in July 2016 . (Web of Science, Total de periódicos: 81, Total de citações: 2541, Fator H:23)
