Seminário GIFT 2021 – Thermal Casimir effect in two dimensions setting bounds on the curvature coupling parameter
Descrição: The non-minimal coupling of gravity with a scalar field involves a dimensionless parameter, known as curvature coupling parameter, whose value is unknown. Such a non-minimal coupling is relevant in high energy physics and cosmology alike. Recent literature shows that there has been active research to determine bounds on the curvature coupling parameter, including experimental data. In this talk I will show that an \’\’anomaly\’\’ arising in the context of the thermodynamics of a scalar field in an one-dimensional cavity (where Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions are assumed at the end points of the cavity) yields naturally a bound on the curvature coupling parameter when the criterion of stable thermal equilibrium is evoked.
