Title: Master (M. Sc.) in Materials Engineering – Professional Master’s Program
Minimum Workload: 360 hours
According to CNE / CES 0079/2002, “Professional Master” (Mestrado Profissional, or MP for short) refers to a Masters Program that emphasizes on studies and techniques directly related to the performance of a high-level professional qualification. This is the only difference between a Professional Master and a regular Masters Degree. Therefore, both programs confer the same degrees and prerogatives, including for the exercise of teaching; and like any strictu sensu graduate program, the Professional Masters has the national validity of its diploma conditioned to previous recognition of the program.
UNIFEI’s Graduate Program in Materials Engineering – Professional Master (PPGEM-MP) was recognized by CAPES in 2010 and has as its main purpose training people, transferring knowledge to the productive sector in the areas of materials and processes, and reducing environmental impacts.
Our main goal is to technically and academically improve professionals in the Materials Engineering area, in the ability to develop new materials and/or detailed studies of physical, chemical, mechanical properties of metallic, ceramic and polymeric materials, as well as to contribute with the industrial sector in development and characterization of materials, considering the aspects of sustainable development and constant update of supervision and qualification areas of products and process optimization.
As this program has a technological focus and seeks to bring UNIFEI and the industrial sector together, it is directed to professionals already working in the area, offering disciplines outside of business hours (evenings and Saturdays). It is important to note that a Professional Master deals exclusively with applied research, and as such, it requires a previous link from the student with an organization / company, which must present proper conditions and commitment with the research, including access to data and facilities, and eventual research funding.
